Steve returned my call, scheduled a time to review my RV's problem. He estimated only 1 hour of labor plus part. This is exactly what I was billed. Steve and Bill, a mechanic, were friendly and helpful. Highly recommended. Emma BPosted on Google![]()

I brought my 2020 VW Atlas Cross Sport to Franklynn Automotive to get a second opinion for a faulty turbo that was recently looked at by McDonald Volkswagen. I was informed by VW Service that I would need to replace my turbo and get a subsequent oil change afterwards costing $2,70000. Additionally, was charged $250.00 for the diagnostic. One of the major concerns was that the vehicle would not accelerate. I took my vehicle to get a second opinion from Franklynn Automotive who I was referred to from my wife’s best friend. Upon completion of the servicing, not only did they discover that I only had a turbo by-pass valve disconnected and a turbo hose after the intercooler hose disconnected and they did not charge me to fix this. Additionally, they changed my front and rear brakes and changed the synthetic oil for less than $800.00. This service team did phenomenal work, they also did not charge me for the initial diagnostic as well. I will be recommending them to my friends for any care service repairs and I will also become a regular customer of theirs. Satisfied customer. RamonePosted on Google![]()

Franklynn Automotive is BY FAR, the best auto shop around! I first came to Franklynn when my air blower in my car went out. Franklynn gave me a fair price, they did a fantastic job and their customer service is excellent! Recently I came in to get new brake pads and their price was much better than their competitors near by. Franklynn Automotive stands out from other auto shops in the area with how great they treat their customers and the outstanding work they do. I recommend them to everyone I know. 10/10, FIVE STARS!!

Frequently Asked Questions:
Warm air can result from low refrigerant, a refrigerant leak, compressor trouble, a faulty cooling fan, an electrical problem, or a malfunctioning pressure sensor or control. Restricted airflow through the condenser or evaporator may also reduce cooling. Because several problems can produce the same symptom, testing the system is more reliable than automatically adding refrigerant. A proper diagnosis can determine whether the system is low on refrigerant and identify why its cooling performance has declined.
Not necessarily. Refrigerant is not consumed like fuel or engine oil. A properly sealed air-conditioning system should retain its refrigerant for years, although a very small amount may gradually escape through seals and hoses. If the A/C requires frequent recharging, the system may have a leak or another underlying problem. Adding refrigerant without identifying the cause may provide only temporary cooling. AAA explains that frequent recharging can indicate a leak and that an A/C recharge is not the solution to every cooling problem.
The specific process depends on the symptoms and vehicle. An A/C diagnosis may include measuring vent temperature, checking refrigerant pressures, inspecting the compressor and cooling fans, examining electrical controls, and looking for evidence of leaks. Technicians may use electronic detection equipment or ultraviolet dye when appropriate. The system’s exact refrigerant charge is also important because both too little and too much refrigerant can affect performance.
Possible signs include gradually declining cooling, cold air that becomes warm, the compressor cycling abnormally, or the need for repeated recharging. Some leaks leave an oily residue around hoses, fittings, service ports, the condenser or other components, but many are too small to identify through a visual inspection. Professional leak-detection equipment may be required. Refrigerant should be recovered and handled with appropriate equipment rather than released into the atmosphere.
Weak airflow may be caused by a clogged cabin air filter, a worn blower motor, a faulty blower resistor or control module, a damaged air door, debris in the air inlet, or a restriction inside the HVAC housing. If airflow works only at certain fan speeds, the blower-control circuit may be involved. If the fan sounds normal but little air reaches the cabin, a filter or airflow-door problem may be more likely. Testing can identify the cause before parts are replaced.
A/C performance that declines at idle may be related to a cooling fan that is not operating correctly, restricted airflow through the condenser, improper refrigerant charge, or a compressor that performs poorly at lower engine speeds. When the vehicle is moving, outside air passes through the condenser. At a stop, the cooling fan becomes especially important. This symptom should be diagnosed rather than treated automatically with additional refrigerant.
A heater may blow cold air because the engine has not reached normal operating temperature, the coolant level is low, the thermostat is stuck open, the heater core is restricted, or an HVAC blend door is not directing air correctly. A water-pump or cooling-system problem may also affect heater performance. Since the heater typically uses heat from the engine coolant, poor cabin heat can sometimes be a sign of a cooling-system concern rather than a problem with the heater controls alone.
Yes. If the coolant level becomes too low, there may not be enough heated coolant circulating through the heater core to warm the cabin. Low coolant commonly indicates a leak or another cooling-system problem and should not be treated as a normal condition. If the temperature gauge rises, a warning light appears, or steam is visible, stop driving when it is safe. Never remove a radiator or pressurized coolant cap while the engine is hot.
A sweet odor inside the cabin, persistent windshield film, unexplained coolant loss, or damp carpeting near the dashboard may indicate a leaking heater core. Because engine coolant can create visibility concerns and low coolant may contribute to engine overheating, these symptoms should be inspected. Not every unusual odor comes from the heater core; moisture, debris or microbial growth in the HVAC case can also produce unpleasant smells.
Yes. In many vehicles, the A/C system operates during defrost mode even when warm air is selected. The air conditioner removes moisture from the cabin air, while the heater raises its temperature. This combination helps clear condensation from the windshield more effectively. Poor A/C operation can therefore affect visibility during cool, wet or snowy Colorado weather—not just passenger comfort during summer. AAA notes that a properly functioning A/C system helps remove moisture and improve window defogging.
The proper interval depends on the vehicle manufacturer, filter type and driving environment. Dust, pollen, wildfire smoke and debris can shorten filter life, which is relevant for vehicles driven around Littleton and throughout Colorado. A restricted cabin filter can reduce airflow and make the heating or air-conditioning system seem less effective. Follow the owner’s manual and inspect the filter when airflow decreases or contamination is suspected. The Car Care Council recommends following vehicle-specific guidance and replacing rather than cleaning and reinstalling a disposable cabin filter. See the Car Care Council’s cabin-filter guidance.
Clear, odorless water beneath the vehicle is usually normal condensation from the A/C evaporator. As the system cools and dehumidifies the cabin air, moisture collects and drains beneath the vehicle. However, water dripping inside the passenger compartment may indicate a blocked or disconnected evaporator drain. Colored, oily or sweet-smelling fluid should not be assumed to be normal A/C condensation. AAA identifies clear water beneath a vehicle after A/C operation as normal condensation.
R-134a is used in many older vehicles, while R-1234yf is used in many newer models. They have different properties, fittings, service equipment and handling requirements. The two refrigerants should not be mixed or substituted without manufacturer authorization. The correct refrigerant type is usually identified on a label under the hood. Franklynn Automotive has equipment for servicing both R-134a and R-1234yf vehicle systems.
A recharge kit may add refrigerant, but it cannot reliably identify why the system is low or confirm the precise total charge. Some products also contain sealants that can contaminate service equipment or create additional system problems. Overcharging can reduce cooling and increase system pressure, while undercharging may leave the compressor inadequately protected. Professional equipment can recover, measure and recharge the refrigerant while helping diagnose leaks and component failures.
Testing the system before consistently hot weather can be useful if cooling has weakened, unusual noises are present, or the system struggled during the previous summer. Littleton temperatures can change quickly, and A/C performance is especially important during summer traffic and road trips. There is no need to recharge a properly operating system simply because summer is approaching, but existing symptoms should be investigated before higher temperatures place greater demand on it.
Franklynn Automotive provides A/C and heater diagnostics, service and repair for drivers in Littleton, Highlands Ranch and nearby communities. If the vents are blowing warm air, airflow is weak, the heater is not warming the cabin, or the windows are difficult to defrost, schedule an appointment so the cause can be identified before repairs are recommended.
